GTA 6 announcement: When was GTA 6 confirmed?
The first GTA 6 announcement came in February 2022, when Rockstar Games broke the news that GTA 6 was "well underway" as part of the broader GTA 5 and GTA Online community updates. Along with word that Grand Theft Auto 6 is in "active development", Rockstar said: "On behalf of our entire team, we thank you all for your support and can't wait to step into the future with you. Can do!”
In August 2022, Rockstar's parent company Take-Two Interactive confirmed as part of the company's financial results report that the development of GTA 6 was "well underway". Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick made some big promises for what GTA 6 will achieve: "Development of the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway, The Rockstar Games team is committed to once again setting the creative bar for the series, our industry, and all of the entertainment, as the label has done with each of its Frontline releases."
GTA 6 News
There hasn't been any official GTA 6 news since the official announcement in February 2022, but that's classic Rockstar Games. Of course, we had the massive leak - which you can read about below - and the reactions to that leak, but otherwise the developer has been pretty quiet on this highly anticipated sequel
GTA 6 leaks: Are the new GTA 6 leaks real?.
An unprecedented GTA 6 leak occurred on September 18, 2022, with dozens of videos and screenshots of an alleged in-development build of the game spread online. Do you want to know if GTA 6 leaks are authentic? Well, Rockstar has released a statement confirming the hack: "We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including the next Grand Early development footage of Theft Auto was also included."
The latest update on all this is that the teen accused of the massive GTA 6 leak has been ruled mentally unfit to stand trial. Reuters reports that 18-year-old Ariane Kurtz, a member of the Lapsus$ hacking group, has been evaluated by psychiatrists, who have deemed him unfit to stand trial for himself.
Interestingly, a screenshot of GTA 6 has been leaked which is the sole survival of the Rockstar copyrighted "Nuke". It seems as if just one frame has been saved from all the extensive copyright claims Rockstar has circulated on the internet.
Will GTA 6 be delayed?
Shortly after the new GTA 6 leak, there was some concern over how the intrusion would affect the ongoing development of the new Grand Theft Auto game. Rockstar confirmed in an official statement that the hack will not impact GTA 6 production or the ongoing security of GTA 5 and GTA Online. As of right now, neither a long-term impact on the development of our ongoing projects nor a disruption to our live game services are anticipated. We're going to keep working on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto game and are just as dedicated as ever to giving our users an experience that goes above and beyond anything they could have imagined."
GTA 6 release date: When is GTA 6 coming out?
GTA 6 release date has not been confirmed yet by Rockstar Games. That hasn't stopped Internet experts from making some educated guesses. Multiple sources have confirmed the rumor that GTA 6 will be released in 2025, which was part of a larger piece of information that suggested that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be set in modern Vice City. It's always wise to take this kind of speculation with a grain of salt, but with the new GTA 6 leak confirming a modern Vice City setting, perhaps a release sometime in 2025 is right on the money. Interestingly, Rockstar owner Take-Two has continued to say that GTA 6 will arrive by March 2025, while not saying anything about it. "We believe we are positioning our business for an important inflection point in fiscal 2025, which will include new record levels of operating performance," adds CEO Strauss Zelnick. It is thought that the release of GTA 6 is the reason for the large increase in revenue projections.
However, there are some rumors that GTA 6 may launch in 2024. "Current and former Rockstar staff believe GTA 6 is still at least two years away from release, suggesting a launch in 2024," reads a piece from Bloomberg.
This was further supported by Microsoft's latest response to the investigation into the ongoing acquisition of Activision Blizzard by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).In it, Microsoft stated, "The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be released in 2024," said the writer.
So maybe GTA 6's release date is closer than we expected?
Why is GTA 6 taking so long?
Many of you might be wondering why GTA 6 is taking so long to arrive. The truth is, between the success of GTA 5 and GTA Online, not to mention the scope of Red Dead Redemption 2, it's no surprise that Rockstar is taking its time. The studio said this when it confirmed that GTA 6 is in development. Rockstar did its best to cite the "phenomenal longevity of GTA 5" – which has been updated and re-released multiple times over the past nine years.
GTA 6 location: Is the GTA 6 setting Vice City?
There has been speculation for a long time about the location of GTA 6, but it looks like we are indeed going back to Vice City. Rockstar has confirmed that the leaked GTA 6 gameplay footage is real, meaning we get a better understanding of the city and setting. To begin with, a screen displays a subterranean train system with the words "Vice City Metro" emblazoned on the side. Sharp-eyed viewers will note that some of the places are known from Grand Theft Auto 3:
Vice City like the Malibu Club, the Ocean View Hotel, and Little Haiti Must have seen it too. , and Vice Beach.
Naturally, the city looks different than it did the last time you were here. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is set in 1986, and all signs point to the GTA 6 setting moving to modern times. The presence of NPCs wearing smartphones and modern clothes is enough evidence that Grand Theft Auto 6 is set in the present-day setting of Miami. Florida, but if that wasn't enough social media users believe that a character references the death of the LifeInvader CEO, who is killed by Michael De Santa - so It seems like GTA 6 takes place following the events of GTA 5.
GTA 6 map
While the final GTA 6 map has yet to be shown, some indicators from leaked videos and screens indicate a play space that extends beyond the limits of Vice City. Just like Rockstar expanded Los Santos between Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and GTA 5, some leaked screenshots show off all-new areas of Vice City. As you may know, Vice City itself is based in Miami, And now there is speculation that GTA 6 will head further south to the Everglades (a wetland) and the Florida Keys (a chain of tropical islands). Now, "Gator Keys" was referenced as part of a radio broadcast in the original GTA: Vice City, but the location was never shown in the game. If the screenshots suggest what we think, expect the GTA 6 map to feature a mix of environment types.
Interestingly, fans are sure that the map of GTA 6 will be much bigger than that of GTA 5. Using the leaked GTA 6 coordinates, GTA 6 subreddit fans have been attempting to map the map themselves, and have subsequently begun piecing together a map of GTA 6 using Google. Earth and paint. Smart people.
GTA 6 characters: Will there be a GTA 6 female protagonist?
It's been rumored for months that Rockstar is working on the first GTA 6 female protagonist – at least, a first for the series in the 3D era. A Bloomberg report earlier this year, which explored the changing company culture within Rockstar North, first broke the news - and has since been confirmed by GTA 6 leaks. In early development footage, we can see two new playable GTA 6 characters.
The in-development names for the characters are Jason and Lucia, and it appears that the character-switching system from GTA 5 is returning in some capacity. A leaked clip shows the pair robbing an eatery together, with one character in control of the player while the other is operated by an AI. In another clip, we see the character swap - although it's almost instantaneous, not a slow perspective change as seen in GTA 5.
GTA 6 gameplay
Since Rockstar has not yet released a trailer for GTA 6, it is difficult for us to say for sure how this new game will play and how it will be a new take on Grand Theft Auto 5. However, it's clear from the early development footage that's been leaked that Rockstar is investigating and testing at least some new mechanics. For example, it appears that a new series of stealth mechanics are being introduced - with footage showing characters crawling, and even carrying dead bodies.
Additionally, the weapon wheel – which was overhauled for GTA 5 – is returning in some capacity, and leaked footage shows that Rockstar is introducing new health items like painkillers. We also see the five-star 'Wanted' system returning, and the VCPD has improved AI routines to track Jason and Lucia once they're on your radar.
